The true cost of hiring in the travel industry…and how to find great talent for free

How to maximise your chances of a successful hire

Return to News & insights

We’ve all heard stories about bad hires and the costs that go hand-in-hand with them (read on for more!). No matter what we do, there’ll always be candidates who turn out to not be quite right for their role. But there are ways to minimise our risk – and there are even ways to discover great travel talent without paying a penny…

Try Before You Buy

One of the big misconceptions about recruitment is that it costs money right from the start. In fact, it’s completely free to look at a selection of C&M’s best and most relevant candidates before deciding if they’ll be right for your company. You only pay when your chosen candidate starts with you – and stays in the role.

On top of this (and without blowing our own trumpet) our 200 years of recruitment experience mean we can typically find and identify higher-quality candidates than those visible on LinkedIn and job boards. And you can view them for free.

Recruitment shouldn’t be seen as a cost. It’s an investment – in the individual and in your overall team. And with C&M’s 94.1% retention rate of all candidates placed in the last five years, there’s an extremely good chance that your investment will be a successful one.

Cost Of Getting It Wrong

Recruitment costs can, of course, vary wildly depending on the role, experience and location, but the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) estimate that the average cost per hire in the UK is £6,125 including job adverts, agency fees and recruitment salaries.

There’s also the cost of lost time. The entire recruitment journey for the UK travel industry takes an average of 57 days - including time spent on drafting job descriptions, reviewing applications, scheduling interviews, and finalising the hiring decision. If you choose to do this yourself rather than through a specialist recruiter, every moment spent on recruitment is a moment diverted from focusing on your customers’ satisfaction and your business's growth.

But the cost of getting it wrong is even greater. According to a survey from the REC, 85 per cent of HR decision-makers admit that their company has made hiring errors. The wrong decision can lead to lost productivity, increased training time, poor customer service and a team that increasingly lacks motivation and unity. So choose your recruits wisely!

Invest In Your Team

Ultimately, the true cost of hiring isn’t measured just in finances, time, or quality, but in the success of your overall team. The risk of hiring the wrong person will always exist. But accessing a shortlist of the finest available candidates for free - without any commitments - provides the best and most cost-effective way of minimising your risks and successfully adding great travel talent to your team.

At C&M Travel Recruitment, we’re dedicated to connecting exceptional talent with leading travel companies – let us know how we can help you this year.
